Rain - check
Storms and Floods - check
Cold temperatures- check
Wind - check
Fire - summers is coming
Tsunami - not likely
Earthquakes - not likely
Cyclones - nope not in Queensland
So now we have a quick checklist completed, i am sure there are more things we could add .
Have a quick think and a bit of a look around your property to see what else might be
needed.
Yes it definitely has been a varied year . So with all the rain we have had surely this will lead
to good or above average spring growth. How is your property fairing have a look now ? Do
you need to start cleaning up and cutting back the vegitation . Have you got a defendable
modified space around you home if a bushfire was to start.
Have you thought to clean out your gutters and drains after the recent rains , they may very
well have silted up . Don't forget to fix those problems we found during the floods , it won't go
away and depending on the problem it may actually get worse over time.
In preparation for summer have you got your fire pump serviced or at least had it running.
Now is a great time to do all of these jobs before the days get to hot and the festive season
begins.
It's not just around the home where we need to be vigilant !
Weather is improving when was the last time the boat got a good going over , motor , PFD’s
and anything else that you carry all needs to be in tip top shape .
Recently trailers have been featuring in accidents, when did you last have a realy good look
at your trailer. The safety chain , tow ball coupling , tyre conditions and spare could make the
difference between a quick run to the tip and a nightmare.
I have also noticed quite a few children travelling in the front seat of vehicles . Don't forget
please don't sit children in the front seat” Airbags don't discriminate”. For more information
on kids and airbags checkout our page on our website www.swansea-ses.weebly.com
Want to see what's in the big shed in Maria street . Ask one of our fantastic volunteers for a
tour , they will be more than happy to show through .
Please Don't forget our services are always looking for new members , give it a thought you
will never know what you can offer till you go and see .
Our Emergency service volunteers would like to acknowledge and thank our council for all
the effort that has been put into get our new building opened . A new home for our
volunteers now and into the future.
Stay safe
